How screenshot to text works

Converting a screenshot into text takes four short steps and usually less than ten seconds.

Step 1: Add your image

Drag a file onto the upload box, click it to choose a file, or copy a screenshot and press Ctrl+V (Cmd+V on Mac) anywhere on the page. PNG, JPG, WEBP and BMP files are supported.

Step 2: Choose the language

Select the language that matches the text in your image. For mixed content, such as Urdu with English words, use the combined options.

Step 3: Extract

Press Extract text. A progress bar shows the recognition status. The first run in a language downloads a small language pack, so it can take a few extra seconds; later runs are faster.

Step 4: Review and copy

The result appears in an editable box. Correct anything you like, then copy it or download a .txt file.

What is OCR?

Optical character recognition analyses the shapes in an image, matches them with known letters and words using a trained model, and outputs machine-readable text. Modern engines combine pattern recognition with language models so they can guess unclear characters from context.

How to improve accuracy

Crop tightly, use the original resolution rather than a compressed copy, make sure the text is horizontal, and choose the right language. If a result looks wrong, try a sharper screenshot.
